Charley & Kate Thorp Award for Advancing Community

The Charley & Kate Thorp Award for Advancing Community is named in honor of Charley and Kate Thorp, a formerly enslaved couple who were instrumental figures at AddRan Male and Female College in the 1800s. The college eventually became Texas Christian University. Charley and Kate were vital contributors to TCU’s early success and are remembered for their compassion and commitment to community. This award recognizes individuals for their commitment to advancing TCU’s connected community. The award recipient is named annually.

Criteria:

  • Nominee must be a ¾ or fulltime employee, who has served as a member of the faculty or staff (exempt or non-exempt) for at least three years.
  • Nominee must be an employee in good standing at Texas Christian University.
  • Members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Provost’s Council and the Office of the Chancellor may submit nominations but are not eligible to be nominated.

Nominations for 2025-2026 are open now through April 17, 2026.
