Roach Institute director recognized for leadership and impact following 28-year Air Force career

Jim Weinstein Saluting

For Jim Weinstein, service didn’t end when he retired from the U.S. Air Force. It simply took on a new shape, and hue.

Now he’s Leading(On) in purple.

Weinstein, director of TCU’s Roach Institute of Athlete Engineering, has been named a finalist for the 2026 U.S. Forces in Business Awards, which recognize military veterans whose leadership and contributions continue well beyond their time in uniform.

Since arriving at TCU, Weinstein has embodied that same service-first approach, bringing people and ideas together across disciplines to build something bigger than any one person or program.

Under his leadership, the institute connects researchers and expertise from across TCU to better understand human performance and turn discovery into solutions for athletes, military personnel, first responders and others operating in demanding environments.

Jim Weinstein with President George Bush

“Leadership starts with helping people see how their strengths contribute to a shared purpose. At TCU, that means keeping students at the center and bringing faculty, athletics and community partners together around research that supports athletic success and improves lives. I’m fortunate to work alongside people who make that possible.”

The U.S. Forces in Business Awards, the world’s largest celebration of veterans in the civilian workforce, recognize standouts from hundreds of nominations across industries and professions. Weinstein joins this year’s select group of finalists, with winners announced Dec. 10 in Dallas.

Legendary Texas Rangers broadcaster Mark Holtz needed only three words to bring a smile to a community. Good news somehow becomes better when shared. In that spirit, the Office of Research & Creative Activity is bringing “Hello Win Column” to TCU. Horned Frog researchers, creators, artists, and inventors have been stacking wins and we’re excited to celebrate them.
